How to Create a Video Recording Studio (on a Shoestring Budget)
Hola hola eyyyyyy peeps!
Are you ready to learn how to create a video recording studio for your biz?
Sooo I am back at ya with a techie round up of tools that will help you become a video recording pro — for realz.
I also run a YouTube channel where I’ve been creating new videos lately to build up my audience…
As I was putting together the Video Pro workshop a while back figured it was time to talk about some of the tools that I use to create videos for my brand + discuss why video should be a part of your digital marketing strategy.
The Power of Video Marketing: A True Story
I’ve got to be honest:
When I started my YouTube channel, I didn’t think that video would be as impactful for branding as they have been:
Just a little while ago, I received a notification via my Facebook page that someone left a new review for my brand.
Curious to see what happened, I scurried over to my Facebook page to check out the new review and here’s what I discovered:
To my surprise, someone left an awesome review about one of my YouTube video tutorials via my Facebook page:
How cool is that?
But let’s unpack things for a hot second so that you can get the full jist of what happened here:
- This awesome ladybug saw a video that I posted on YouTube
- Watched the video (and…guessing from her feedback got value from it)
- Connected with me on my Facebook Page
- …Then took the time to leave feedback on my Facebook page regarding my the video
This comment inspired me to push forward and continue to crank out videos for my YouTube channel as I saw that people are getting a ton of value out of my video tutorials.
The Top Tools and Resources that I Use for Creating Professional Looking Videos (On a Budget)
If you are running your biz the lean way and want to create professional videos for your YouTube channel or even your online courses, here is a running list of tools that I recommend you check out:
Tool #1: The iPhone 6
Used For: For shooting live videos
This bad boy cost me a pretty penny but it’s been worth it as the video quality is just top notch.
I used to use an Android phone (sorry Android users) and while I loved it, I wasn’t all that crazy about the video quality.
So after reading up on the reviews of the iPhone 6, I made the decision to invest in the iPhone 6. If you don’t want to purchase an iPhone 6, then I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Canon T5i DSLR Camera.
If you already have an iPhone and want to shoot high quality videos, here’s a video tutorial plus a list of tips that you should keep in mind:
#1: Shoot your videos in landscape mode (meaning turn your phone horizontally to get a wide angle shot).
Landscape mode will make your videos look better and plus, this is the way YouTubers shoot video from their iPhones. Your videos will look more professional. In case you’re not sure what landscape mode looks like, this is it:
#2: Shoot videos in spaces where there is a lot of natural lighting.
Peeps, lighting makes a huge difference. Try to shoot your videos next to windows or well lit places so that your videos turn out clear and well-lit.
#3: Use a Tripod
Tripods will help you keep your videos sturdy as you are shooting them. I would recommend using this Arkon iPhone Tripod Mount. It’s super affordable and works with the iPhone 6, 7 and 8.
When I first started creating online video courses and recording videos, I used Camtasia.
Now don’t get me wrong…
Camtasia is a great video editing and recording platform, but in my opinion it’s a little more difficult to use. Plus, I didn’t like that it was very resource intensive on the pc front and caused a lot of crashes.
So, I switched over to Screen-Cast-Omatic and I have not looked back.
Screen-Cast-OMatic will only set you back $15 a year, is easy to use, has a picture in picture feature that allows you to show yourself walking people through certain things while you are creating your tutorials.
Tool#3: QIAYA Ring Light for Camera iPhone Photography
Used For: Professional lighting
I initially was using a smaller light with my iPhone 6 to shoot my videos, but upgraded to this QIAYA Ring Light for Camera iPhone Photography and this tripod to get better lighting.
This will come in handy if you are shooting videos at night and need to add some lighting to dark areas to shoot great looking videos.
Tool #4. Wondershare Filmora
Used For: For video editing
Wondershare Filmora is in my opinion one of the most powerful and easiest to use video editors out there today.
I tried using Camtasia but it was just a little too difficult to use. So I took to the internet to look for a video editing alternative and stumbled upon the Wondershare Filmora application.
Things that I love about Filmora:
- It’s easy to use and doesn’t require any kind of special tech knowledge
- It’s the perfect video editor for beginners (and even advanced peeps)
- You can use it to create intro videos, add powerful intros to your videos, background music, GIF (Animations) and more — in minutes!
- The software is compatible with MAC and PC’s
Tool #5. The Lavalier Lapel Mic
Used For: Better Audio Quality with your iPhone Videos
The Lavalier Lapel Microphone is a fan-favorite in the world of video creators for creating videos on your softphone.
To get a clearer more crisp sound, this is the go to resource to invest in — especially if you’re using an iPhone or smartphone for recording videos.
Want to know the best part?
The Lavalier Lapel Microphone will only set you back about $15 bucks. Not bad right?
Tool #6: The Logitech C920 WebCAM
Used For: Video Calling, Recording and Audio
I’ve been using the Logitech C920 Webcam for years now and let me tell you:
It does NOT disappoint. This webcam is #BAE as it has a built-in microphone that will help you record videos like a CHAMP on your PC.
The best part about it is that this Webcam is that its compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 or later plus works with MAC’s too!
(BONUS) Tool#7. Slides Carnival + Creative Market
Used For: Creating Beautiful Slide Decks for Online Courses
Looking for a way to put together beautiful slide decks for your online courses? Then look no further.
Slides Carnival is a free resource that you can use to create attractive slide decks for your online courses and stuffage.
Another resource that I love using to crank out beautiful slide decks for video courses is none other than Creative Market.
Creative Market has over 9,300 presentation templates to choose from. So my friend, you have more than a treasure trove of presentations to choose from to make super sexy slide decks peeps.
